Song 94
Pay attention, you children of men, and indeed take to heart
God says to all sinners: Everyone shall fear me.
I will not leave unrecompensed any sin or transgression.
Whoever does not want to serve me, He finds no mercy with me.
Yet it is not my desire, that the sinner should perish,
But this I say to all, so everyone would be devout.
Repent from the heart, you sinners all together,
If you want to avoid pain and come to me in My kingdom.
I am holy and pure, True, righteous, and good,
So will I have a church who does My will.
No sinner will I have, Indeed in My kingdom,
No one will I spare, The wicked must remain without.
Note what I gave for reward To the wicked angels
For their sinful deed, Binding them with chains.
I did not spare them, But cast them into eternal torment.
No sin can stand before me, for I am pure.
I also did not spare the whole world when they would not repent,
I destroyed great and small.
I allowed the flood to come over every mountain and valley,
Delivering only the godly, there were eight in all.
To Me it is not important in having great numbers.
But the godly I do bless, the wicked I will destroy.
Behold how I did save righteous Lot himself, with two others,
Out of the cities of Sodom, the calamity did not touch him.
The wicked had to burn in brimstone and in fire.
His wife also stayed behind and became a pillar of salt.
Indeed you shall observe her, she shall be a sign unto you,
That whosoever does not trust in me walks only in a pretense.
Even though one shows himself as if he were devout,
Sharing of his money with others.
His pretense does not help him at all, nobody can deceive Me,
I know the hearts indeed. If anyone will lie to me,
He shall have his punishment.
For I do likewise prove my children altogether,
Through the fire I do lead them, purifying them as gold.
He who walks in delusion walks only in a semblance
And cannot stand the test, it will only be a pretense.
No sinner may stand indeed in the church of the righteous,
She will have nothing unclean, but be completely holy.
Therefore God’s judgment begins at the house of God,
That He the evil ones and hypocrites drives out.
So judgment first begins at the house of God.
When the end draws nigh, what will then become
Of those who do not obey The Gospel
Moreover also do not fear God, and so not shun sin?
If the just and righteous scarcely may escape,
What will the godless servant do at that day?
Thus the Lord will take vengeance, yes, over all those who
Do not live according to His will here on this earth.
This verily take to heart, you people altogether.
The green wood suffers distress and may not escape the fire.
How will it then go, no doubt, with the dry wood,
With fire it must waste away until its pride is completely gone.
God destroyed Sodom with fire because their sinful deeds.
This, you shall understand, is surely and example,
For all who live ungodly after them in this time.
God will give them their wages, Hell’s fire is prepared for them.
Therefore I want to give you some very good counsel:
Better you lives, stay away from iniquity,
For Christ will take vengeance with a flaming fire
Over all that live ungodly, in His exceeding wrath.
Now He is mild and gently, The Lord Jesus Christ,
Therefore He lets His Word be preached in this time,
So that you shall believe it and become godly from the heart.
Thereafter let yourself be baptized, and make
A covenant with Him.
So if you will believe His Word, receiving it from the heart,
Thereafter letting yourself be baptized, avoiding all sin:
So will you be accepted as members of Christ,
With Him you will come into His Father’s kingdom.
This is the way to life, besides no other way leads therein.
Thereto you shall strive to be followers of Christ.
Would you become true members of His body,
So you must here on earth be cleansed from all sin.
This is wrought by true faith and sincere baptism.
You must also not draw back but firmly abide thereon,
Persevering until the end.
So will you be saved, turning away from God no more,
Being steadfast unto the end.
Whoever lives in this way, Him God has chosen,
His walk of life gives witness that he is born anew
Of water and of spirit.
He no longer is a sinner, his flesh rules no more,
So desires the Lord God.
Such are true Christians, who live this way,
They do bury all carnal lusts with Christ,
These will God’s Spirit lead till in the angel band,
That they touch no evil, from sin He will guard them.
Now I want to further inform you
Also of the sinful church, which boasts greatly with words
How they are good Christians. They all say they believe,
But with their walk of life they do completely deny it,
I consider this a delusion.
It will go with such as with the fig tree, When Christ
desired fruit He found no figs thereon, But only leaves.
So will it go with you when fruit is sought and none is found,
But only empty words.
If this were the true faith, as you do boast,
Then you would be converted, and abstain from all sin.
Where faith does not bring forth good works, it is dead,
Like the body without spirit, as it stands written.
So shall you understand, as Christ says, the tree you shall know
By its fruit indeed, whoever bears evil fruit is a corrupt tree,
Men will cut it off and burn it with fire.
Therefore Christ did come,
That He the fig tree might dig and fertilize,
Letting it stand another year, then He will come again,
And if he finds no fruit, He will quickly cut it down
And light it with fire.
So whoever now wants to escape God’s wrath and power
And not burn in the fire, He shall be converted now.
For Christ will soon come, giving to each their wages,
To good and evil, each according to his works.
Truly take this to heart, you people altogether,
God will not let Himself be mocked, no sinner will be saved,
But alone the godly who keep His covenant will enter into His
Kingdom,
the evil into the depth of hell.
Thus I want to close, praising God with heart and mouth,
Calling upon His name, that He at this hour and also at all times
Helps His people out of distress, contending with His power,
Out of death unto life. Amen.
