Salvation by Grace, through Faith
|
Salvation is a precious gift from God given through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. It was a promise given after Adam and Eve transgressed against God in the Garden of Eden. And a promise that was fulfilled in the person of Jesus, one night in Bethlehem. God was manifested in the flesh, made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death in order to save His people from their sins. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Mat 1:21 Salvation is by grace through faith. Faith consists of more than just believing there is a God. It's more than just a mental ascent; more than a repetitious prayer. Faith will move a person to action. Salvation requires action on your part. First of all, it requires repentance. . .Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Act 3:19 There is no conversion to Christ without repentance. One must turn from his sin in order to find salvation. Not just in your mind, but you must cleanse yourself from your sin. . . Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2Co 7:1 Repenting of sin that God makes known to you does not mean that you keep going back and wallowing in that sin! You forsake the deed, or the thought, you don't return to it. It's dead to you. You crucify it, like Christ was crucified for you. You hate that sin, because God hates that sin and you want to please your Lord and Saviour. Salvation is by grace through faith. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17 Are you reading God's Word . . . listening to it being preached . . . studying it . . . believing it? If you are hearing God's Word, are you obeying it . . . practicing it . . . living it? Do you have an active faith? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:17,18 The Bible says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Rom 10:13" It is His grace or His divine influence upon our hearts and the faith in Him that comes from hearing His Word that truly saves us from our sin. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Eph 5:26, 27 Holy and without blemish? Yes, that's what real salvation produces. . . holiness! You will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Gal 5:22, 23, 24. Are you bearing any fruit of the Spirit that dwells in you? Today's Christianity has taken all responsibility off the sinner and placed it all on God! This is not sound Biblical teaching. Salvation does belong to the Lord and we can never atone for our own sin but the Gospel will be unprofitable to the hearer unless it is mixed with faith. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Heb 4:2 You can't have salvation without faith. Salvation is more than a 1,2,3 pray after me prayer recited. It's being saved from your sin; free from the bondage and the yoke of your lusts and desires. Grace is more than some unseen, almost magical force that turns one into a Christian. It's the influence of the Holy Spirit guiding His son, like a father leading his small child by the hand. Faith is more than a mental ascent that there is a God in Heaven. Faith is putting your belief in God into action and being obedient to His Word. Salvation is by grace through faith; not by grace alone. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb 11:6 Don't play games with God. He already knows your heart. You'll not back Him into any corner and say, "I said the prayer!". "I believed. (So do the devils) I go to church." Your membership to some church will not impress God; or being baptized will not guarantee salvation. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Mat 7:21 No . . . the mercy of God brought salvation . . . by grace through faith; obedient faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Tit 2:14 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Heb 5:9 |
