Are Your Sins Covered or Washed?

Do you believe that Christ covers your sin, so you can continue therein?

If that question were asked to your average fundamental Baptist, you would be shocked at the answer you would receive. Unless of course, you are still the same old creature that you were before. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2Cor 5:17

I was reading an article on an IFB website that was explaining the doctrine of “once saved always saved” no matter what you do; no matter how you live!  The doctrine of claiming the promises of God, while being a practicing sinner, covered by the blood, under grace and headed to Heaven kicking and screaming, whether  you want to go or not.

The article went into detail, that it doesn’t matter what you do after your “so-called salvation”, no matter what terrible sins you commit. . .  adultery or murder and that you are STILL one of God’s children. It went on to explain that God can’t go back on His promise and that no man can pluck you out of His hand, not even yourself; that there is NOTHING you can do to lose your salvation. The main theme was that you are under the blood of Jesus and your sin can’t be seen by God; that your sin is covered by the blood of Jesus. It went on to say that the blood of Jesus is strong enough to keep your sins forgiven before God. But God’s Word says "if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the BLOOD of Jesus Christ his Son CLEANSETH us from all sin"1 John 1:7

Now, I don’t understand how professing Christians can make these statements “ I was saved for twenty years before I became a Christian” or “ I repented, but I never got right with God” or “ I’m just a secret disciple, and I know I’m going to heaven when I die”.What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Rom 6:1-2 They are deceived and are not only believing, but living the lie. They believe that they are a secret disciple, yet it’s only a secret in their mind, because God knows them that are His and our spirit and their spirit don’t bare witness that they are a child of God. “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Mat 7:20

This type of doctrine teaches the hearer, that as long as you believe, you will receive "ETERNAL SECURITY" that allows for a CARNAL life of SIN with no rules, just the loss of a few rewards. You can be sure that the Holy Spirit will not empower anyone to disobey the Scriptures. "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints."1Co 14:33   They teach that  we are under "grace", therefore, we are not under the "law" (Mosaic Law).

The Moral Law of God never changes, because God never changes. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." Heb 13:8   The idea that "Christian liberty" frees you from obeying Jesus and the faith that was once delivered unto the saints is absurd. “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15   The concept that being "under grace" as a license to sin, and it frees you from being a "doer of the Word" is simply a false doctrine from men, who are turning the grace of God into lasciviousness.

The word "lasciviousness" means "absence of restraint".  It is the idea that because we are under “grace”, and have “liberty”, that we can live loose, be worldly, disobey, and still go to Heaven. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Gal 6:7   False doctrine always appeals to the flesh. True doctrine leads us to crucify our flesh, and to be submissive to the Spirit of Christ.  False doctrine usually stems from justification of flesh; avoiding the cross; love of self; love of money; excusing a lifestyle of sin; love of praise and the love of security. You should be able to understand that these ideas are a tool of the devil and are promoted by man's love for his own selfish lifestyle. In order to know truth, “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Mat 16:24

In the light of what is being taught today in most  churches, if someone, who, with the help of the Holy Spirit is trying to live “soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;" Tit 2:12 - they would be called a Legalist in their faith and practice and it would be said they were trying to atone for their own sins by keeping a law, rather than following Jesus and depending on His atonement. Believing one has to obey Christ (and thus show his faith) in order to receive Christ's gracious atonement is different than believing that your obedience to a creed or law will atone for your own sins.

Remember, when Jude said that he "gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jud 1:3

Is it needful for us to have the same faith as the saints?  Do we need to be faithful and obedient in our daily walk in this life?  In Hebrews the Bible says that without faith it is IMPOSSIBLE to PLEASE Him and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently SEEK Him. If your walk is turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, then it is clear you’re in disobedience and walking away from God and are NOT diligently SEEKING Him.  Remember “he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” Heb. 5:9

Jesus made a better covenant with New Testament Saints!  Our sins that are past  are washed away and we are cleansed from them when we repent and turn to Christ.  Old Testament saints had a remembrance of their sins each year and their sins were covered by the blood of bulls and goats.  Jesus’ blood is so much better!  He cleanses you from all unrighteousness, clears your conscience, and makes you whole.  I thank God my sins are washed and my conscience is clear!!

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Heb 10:22

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, Rev 1:5

Dear reader, don’t be deceived into thinking that your sins are covered by the Blood of Christ and can’t be seen by God.  Come to Jesus, repent of your sins, ask for forgiveness and he will wash away your sins, never to be remembered again.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Mat 5:8
